High profile couple, Al and Tipper Gore, ended a relationship that portrayed images of soul mate closeness that endured for 40 years. The lesson: couples cannot collect and bank credit points for times of closeness. Those times have to be current and ongoing.
The Gore’s break-up has generated articles and discussions about the chances for long-term marriages to survive. One of those articles by Niesha Lofing at the Sacramento Bee started with the question, “So how’s your marriage?” Thought provoking and perhaps a wake-up call for couples caught up in the stress of raising children, dealing with a bad economy and struggling with finding time for important relationships.
My next blog will be a personal perspective of long term marriage. We will be celebrating our 55th wedding anniversary this month.
