Weekly Diary of A Marine Recruit’s Mom May 19

When Children Grow Up

Single mom, Jamie Ervin Laster, has put her heart and soul into raising two beautiful boys. Geramie, the older boy, has always loved the military. In spite of losing six jobs in 18 years Jamie was able to keep Geramie in private school through high school. When he graduated high school in 2009 he wanted to join the Marines. Jamie was able to talk him out of joining at that time. He has been in boot camp since May . Jamie keeps a weekly diary during his training. He has seven more weeks. His mother has generously offered to share her weekly diary with my parenting blog readers.

Boot Camp Begins

May 19, 2014                      Diary of a Marine Recruit Mom

Well it’s been one week since you left for boot camp and a roller coaster ride of emotions for me and your brother,Jordan. The fires in San Diego including some on base did not help ease our anxiety but we know you are tough, Geramie and will persevere. Hearing your voice for 10 seconds Thursday morning meant everything to me. Your brother got academic awards and graduates Friday. Twelve more weeks and we will both be at YOUR graduation.

Sending you positive wishes and energy my son. “Stay Strong”

Love you

Ooh Rah
